Message from District Governor Tom Cardwell
There is so much going on it is hard to know where to start. It’s exciting to be part of this district because we are getting things done.

Presidential Theme for 2017-18
The theme for 2017-18 is Rotary: Making a difference.  My interpretation of the theme after attending the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta is that we want to be able to continue to do good works but we need to do a better job of documenting our time and effort so we can leverage it to help more people.  I believe it will attract kindred spirits to Rotary.

President of Rotary International
Rotary International President for 2017-18 is Ian H.S. Riseley.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Sandringham in Victoria, Australia.

District Goals for 2017-18
As the newly installed 2017-18 district governor I want to share our district goals with you.  These are based on the Rotary International Goals set forth by President Ian H.S. Riseley of Australia.   By the way he seems to be a pretty cool guy.  He likes upbeat music, obviously with a taste for Australian artists.  AC/DC, Little River Band, Men at Work, Keith Urban, Rick Springfield, Air Supply, the Bee Gees, etc.  I enjoyed that part a lot at the International Assembly in San Diego last January.

Rotary District Governor Club Visits
One of the most fulfilling duties of District Governor is the opportunity to visit every Rotary Club in the District. Tom's first visit as District Governor was to the Ashland Rotary Club. He presented President Joe Baudler with the 2017-18 Rotary Theme Banner.

You can see DG Tom's visit schedule on the District Website as download his bio - click here.
Council of Governors
Some of you may know that the District has something called the Council of Governors. As you might expect it is a council of mostly prior District 5650 Governors.  (Click here for a list of Past District 5650 Governors.)

I attend as the current district governor and the districts new Governor Elect Julie O’Hara of the Shenandoah club and District Governor Nominee Mick McKinley  of the Council Bluffs Noon club also attended.

Zambia Project
It began with a $500 gift in 2003 from Lincoln East Rotary that used to purchase sinks for the Bindi (pediatric ward) at Livingstone General Hospital in Zimbabwe. Over time the Zambia Global Project  has burgeoned into a massive Rotary project involving many Rotary District 5650 clubs.
