The Service Above Self Award is considered the highest honor that RI can bestow on a member. It recognizes up to 150 outstanding Rotarians and Rotaractors each year whose service activities make an impact on humanity. No more than one recipient is selected from a given district each year, and a person can receive the award only once.
The Lincoln South Rotary Club Board nominated Jenny, the District submitted the nomination to Rotary International, and Jenny was selected to receive the award.

News Story: Representatives from the Columbus Noon Rotary club presented over 2300 items, including backpacks, binders, paper, notebooks, crayons, etc on Friday, July 26 to the Simon House. $240 to be used by the Simon House to purchase additional supplies was also donated.

One of the reasons girl children drop out of school is because they do not have the means to live and attend school through their puberty ages. Period health is important for girls ability to stay in school in rural low income communities around the world.

Each month, the Nebraska City Rotary Club selects a community organization to support. As members are fined for various things, their donations are matched by the club's treasury.
Lincoln East Rotary Club presented a $5,000 check to Liz Shea-McCoy, chair of the Pershing Mural Historic Preservation Effort. “I’m glad that our club supports projects like this,” said Rotary member Duane Tappe, who invited Shea-McCoy to a recent meeting. “The Pershing mural within Wyuka Park will have historical and educational value for Nebraskans – statewide.”

Our club has partnered with Lincoln Parks and Recreation to plant Trees in our efforts to engage our community in mitigating the effects of climate change.
I am writing to invite your club members to join us in this event at Trendwood Park this Saturday starting at 10 am, volunteers are required to come with closed-toed shoes and gloves if they own a pair, if not there will be extra ones available. This is a family event and members are encouraged to come with their children.

The Beatrice Daily Sun included a story about the Beatrice Rotary Club project to support the middle school mini market on August 23, 2023. Grant funds were used to set up shelving and to provide some food items. See below for the article and more photos.

June 30th was an opportunity for Lincoln East Rotary Club to welcome seven new members and install their officers for 2023-2024.
There were several spouses, friends and our 2023-24 District Governor, Kathryn Schubert from Omaha Suburban, along with Assistant Governor, Clay Ehlers to help welcome these new members and install our President, Andrew Mwape. Andrew is a Ph.D. student in Applied Climatology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his home is in Zambia.
On April 6th, the Western Douglas County Rotary Club held their annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon during the club’s regularly scheduled meeting at the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation Community Room Alumni Center. The scholarship winners, their parents, counselors and school administrators were special guests of the club.
The Blair Rotary Club received a District 5650 Matching Grant to support the Blair School District Skills Academy. The grant provided funds for educational materials to support the Skills Academy. Click here to read the story as posted to the newspaper.
The Blair Rotary Club supports the Midweek Meal program to help provide meals during a time of economic uncertainty. This was done using matching funds from a Rotary District Grant.

The Fairbury Rotary Club (Club 1520) celebrated its 103rd anniversary on Feb. 26, 2023, with a celebration at the Bonham Theatre in Fairbury.Joining in the celebration were current and past District Governors for District 5650, representatives of other Rotary clubs in the district, family members of deceased Rotarians, representatives of organizations for which Fairbury Rotary provides support, and members of the Fairbury Rotary Club. Some in attendance were dressed for the 1920s.
