I wanted to make sure everyone saw the update on what we are doing to help those impacted by the recent storms.
(Photo is of the tornado after it left Minden, Iowa and headed toward Harlan, Iowa.)
As you know, we have a Rotary Club in Elkhorn, NE, Western Douglas County Rotary. Here is the message they would like to share with everyone...
"Just wanted to keep you updated, we had a meeting this morning with a few community folks about how we can help best moving forward. Hundreds of volunteers are in the area helping with the cleanup process, the Red Cross and Salvation Army is on site with water and snacks for the immediate recovery process.
In a few days when the victims get a grasp of what has happened, and the agencies and volunteers are gone is when we want to step in and be there for the families that need assistance..."
Right now, we have been told that the community is in need of new socks and underwear for adults and children. They also need new bath towels/washcloths and new unopened pillows. Any donated items should be taken to COPE, 20601 Elkhorn Drive, Elkhorn, NE.
They will continue to provide a list of needs and resources that will be helpful so I can communicate the needs to the rest of the District.
We are also reaching out to the community in Minden, IA, to determine how we can help them. They were also impacted by the storms and, while we do not have a Rotary Club in Minden, they are inside our District footprint.
The District Leadership along with our District Rotary Foundation Chair are working to determine the best way to accept funds for those impacted.
I know the community appreciates the thoughts and support of our fellow Rotarians along with the offers to help. Please stay tuned to learn how best we can be of service.
Thank you to all who have reached out asking how you can help!
Rotary Rocks!!
