FAIRBURY, NE — It’s time to get your game on at Fairbury City Park.

Community leaders cut the ribbon on the new Isaac Outdoor Game Center on Monday. The idea for the attraction started when the Rotary Club received a $1500 matching grant to construct concrete corn hole boards. Rotary President Lana Likens then went to the city for approval.

“The City then said, we’ve actually been thinking about doing some other kinds of outdoor games and kind of renovating the horseshoe pit area. We think this all could work together really well. So, a project was born and obviously there’s been a lot of organizations that have been involved,” Likens said.

Other groups chipping in include the Little Blue NRD, JeffCo On the Move, Rooted in Relationships, Public Health Solutions, Jefferson County Veterans, Community Volunteers of Nebraska, Lottman Carpenter Construction, Lottman Ready Mix and the Jefferson County Art Guild.

Likens thinks it was a popular idea because of the benefits to mental and physical health.

“It’s so neat to have something in our community that enhances our park, which is already awesome, and encourages people to be outdoors and spend time with their family,” Likens said.

The sidewalk was just finished last week and the existing story walk will be moved to follow the path. The space includes cornhole, horseshoes, table tennis, gaga ball, plinko, tetherball, giant Jenga and more.

Likens has already seen the Game Center being used.

“It just makes me feel good that our community can have some really neat things, not only for the people who live here, but for the people who visit here,” Likens said.

A grand opening special event is planned for the spring.

Instructions for each of the games are listed on the back of the game center sign.
