Thank you for your hospitality and generosity last night after the basketball games!  The Fairbury Rotary Club gave our basketball teams burgers and brats prior to leaving.  They were very appreciative!  Thanks for helping feed them!

The Fairbury Rotary Club traditionally held a fundraiser as a tailgate event at a football game. In 2020, right before the pandemic hit, they hosted their first basketball tailgate. With the pandemic, all tailgates were interrupted. This year they were able to offer both football and basketball tailgates again. They chose the Fairbury vs. Johnson County High School Boys’ Basketball game on January 27.

The Rotary Club sold burgers and brats, chips, cookies and sodas. Per Fairbury Rotary Club President Lana Likens, "It was a great success - the workers and customers enjoyed the interaction. I was particularly impressed with a group of young men from Johnson County Central - they were polite and complimentary. We shared our positive experience with the Johnson County school officials."

Likens stated that, whenever their Rotary Club has events at the school, they give complimentary food to the custodial staff to show their appreciation for their hard work and long hours.

At the close of the tailgate, the Rotary Club had several food items remaining. Knowing that the Johnson County Central athletes were facing an hour-long bus ride home, they decided to give them the remaining product. The team and coaches appreciated the gesture - and the food.

Likens believes that Rotary events are certainly not single purpose. This event, though a fundraiser, also serves the community and is an opportunity to spread goodwill and friendship.
