Governor Kathryn's February Message

Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on February 23, 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Now, 119 years later, our members span the globe, working to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems.

 

February is also Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month when we ­celebrate a core Rotary ­concept: the ­pursuit of global peace and understanding.  As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.  It is my hope that every Club is planning to celebrate our 119^th Anniversary with a speaker or service project that promotes peace. 

 

Valentine's Day is coming up on February 14^th. It can be a great opportunity to show you really care about someone by giving them the gift of Rotary!  Invite someone you care about to join you at a meeting or a service project so they can see why you love Rotary so much!!

 

Looking for something to share with those you love? Here are some events around the District for you:

On Saturday, February 10^th, you can join Lincoln 14 at their annual auction and fundraiser, RISE.SHINE.GIVE.  Or, you can join Council Bluffs Centennial and Council Bluffs Noon Rotary Club as they collect food and cash donations for the Council Bluffs Pantry Association.

On Saturday, February 24^th, you can join Omaha West, Omaha Downtown, Omaha Millard and Omaha Suburban for their annual Meal Packaging project.  After that, you can join Council Bluffs Noon for their annual Texas Hold’em Tournament.
