Spring is just around the corner! This warmer weather is such a delight, which gives people a sense that the world is coming alive again and hopefully returning to normal.

Soon we will all be able to start doing spring service projects. Clubs that haven’t met since last March hopefully will find ways to get back together. Other clubs will start meeting and continuing their hybrid formats. Rotary friends reuniting what a wonderful thought. I look forward to hitting the road again to visit more clubs and meeting more of you. Interacting with our members is truly the highlight of being district governor and I love it.

I’m getting my first COVID-19 vaccine this morning…what a great feeling. This has been, to say the least, a difficult year for everyone. However, Rotarians in our district and around the world continue to provide service where ever they see the need.

We wrapped up the multi-district food drive the end of February. I have to thank everyone that contributed toward this much needed effort to help those with food insecurity. With matching funds from both districts our grand total is $33,060.00. For every donated $1, the Food Bank can distribute enough food for three meals. With that statistic in mind our two districts provided 100,818 meals….amazing!!!

Our clubs have not only helped raise money but have been boots on the ground helping in local pantries and meal programs throughout our district. These contributions of our time, talent and treasurers truly makes a difference.

I also would like to bring attention to all the clubs that are helping their communities with the vaccine clinics. I know the Council Bluffs clubs have been volunteering at Mid-America center. They not only volunteered time but also rounded up twenty six wheel chairs to help transport individuals through the clinics. I know there are many other clubs doing similar service and I commend all of you. Our communities need our help to get the immunization process completed so we can all get back to normal as quick as possible. I encourage all of you to volunteer and also encourage everyone around you the importance of getting vaccinated. As Rotarians that have been diligently working to eradicate polio in the world, we absolutely know the benefits of eliminating disease.

I am continually impressed at all the wonderful projects our clubs across the district achieve to help others. Keep up the wonderful work and remember to have FUN

Warm regards
Roxy Orr, District Governor
