THIS INFORMATION WAS POSTED FOR THE 2023 24 ROTARY YEAR DISTRICT TEAM.

No one likes sitting through hours of someone talking.  So the District Education Team have broken up the information for the District Team Training into a multi-week course.  This will not replace your attendance at DTTS on February 4th, but by moving these topics to online training, we’ll have more time for networking, leadership training and fun.

You will receive one section each week, but if you want to go through the whole program at once, you can see it at the District website by clicking here.

Some words about Rotary’s Learning Center
Most of these Learning Center courses are available within Assistant Governor Basics learning plan.  When you click on a learning center link, you will have to log into my.rotary.org first, then it will take you to the Learning Center home page; then click the link in this document again and you should go to the correct module. Even if you have completed these courses before – check them out – there may be updates.  Don’t be daunted by the time shown on the site – you can probably get through it in less than ½ the time and many courses are duplicated between learning plans.

WEEK 1 – Roles and Responsibilities

As assistant governor, you are the connection between your clubs and the district. The relationships you build with club leaders make Rotary Stronger.

Week 2: Know Your Resources

Where can you find out the information about your clubs without having to ask them or the District Admin?  Most of it in My Rotary or the District website.  Use this week to explore these resources.

Learning Center Modules

Action

  • Make sure you can use the resources in My Rotary: Do any of your clubs (or clubs in our District) have anything posted in Rotary Showcase?
  • Can you find out how much you personally have given to the Foundation?
  • Find at least one project in Rotary Ideas that you could recommend to a local club that might be having problems coming up with ideas – find an idea that they could copy locally or maybe one that would allow them to partner with a club in another country.

Week 3: Supporting your Clubs

Your primary goal as a District Representative is to support the clubs.  Make sure you review the Club President Basics in the learning center – it won’t take long because many of the modules are the same as for Area Governor. But part of support is being in their shoes.

Another part of being an Area Governor is helping your clubs with Membership issues.  Take the time to go through the Membership Learning Plan to learn ideas and options.

Plus

Action

  • Visit your club(s) with the current AG
  • Follow your club’s in Social Media and request that their newsletter be sent to you
  • Get to know your clubs’ strengths and weaknesses.  (See additional ideas in Suggested Timeline for AGs)
  • Sign up for PETS – and make sure your clubs PEs have also signed up. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP NOW.
  • We've created an updated AG Timeline - see the downloads section on this website.

Week 4: Working with District Team

The District Governor knows they can’t do everything themselves, so they are counting on you to do your part and to communicate with other District Committee Chairs and leaders to keep them informed.  If you don’t know who they are or what they do, that makes it harder.

WEEK 5: Goal Setting

At our District Team Training event, you will be asked to help create the District goals for the upcoming year.  Many those goals roll-up from information entered at the club level in Club Central.  And other goals should be tied into the Strategic and Action Plan as set by Rotary.  Take this week to review the Action plan and reflect how it ties into the goals.

Learning Center Modules

Action

  • Find out what your clubs have entered for their goals for the current year and if they have entered any for next year.
  • Review the materials for Rotary’s Action Plan in My Rotary > About Rotary > Action Plan

  • Especially watch the video from Dr. Francis Tusubira of Uganda on Rotary’s Action Plan site.
  • How does the Action Plan tie into the goals that need to be set for the District and for Clubs?
  • Review the Recognition and Awards that are available for the clubs at both the District and Rotary International level. How can recognitions help with goals?
