THIS INFORMATION WAS POSTED FOR THE 2023 24 ROTARY YEAR DISTRICT TEAM.

No one likes sitting through hours of someone talking. TheDistrict Education Team have broken up the information for the District Team Training into a multi-week course.  This will not replace your attendance at DTTS on February 4th, but by moving these topics to online training, we’ll have more time for networking, leadership training and fun.

You will receive one section each week, but if you want to go through the whole program at once, you can see it at the District website by clicking here.

Some words about Rotary’s Learning Center
Most of these Learning Center courses are available within District Committee Basics learning plan.  When you click on a learning center link in this document, you will have to log into my.rotary.org first, then it will take you to the Learning Center home page; then click the link in this document again and you should go to the correct module. Even if you have completed these courses before – check them out – there may be updates.  Don’t be daunted by the time shown on the site – you can probably get through it in less than ½ the time and many courses are duplicated between learning plans.

WEEK 1 – Roles and Responsibilities

Successful district committees rely on the leadership qualities that make you a successful club leader. By appointing you to a committee, your district governor has recognized that your skills, experience, and enthusiasm will help drive initiatives and support club and district activities and functions.

Week 2: Know Your Resources

Where can you find out the information about your clubs without having to ask them or the District Admin?  Most of it in My Rotary or the District website.  Use this week to explore these resources.

Learning Center Modules

Action

  • Make sure you can use the resources in My Rotary: Do any of your clubs (or clubs in our District) have anything posted in Rotary Showcase.
  • Can you find out how much you personally have given to the Foundation?
  • Find at least one project in Rotary Ideas that relates to your committee that you could promote as an idea to clubs for something they can do.

Week 3: Supporting your Clubs

Your primary goal as a District Representative is to support the clubs.  Many District Committee positions have corresponding positions at the club level, so be sure to think of how you can help the clubs as you go through this week’s materials.

Learning Center Modules

Action

  • Should your committee interact with a committee at the club level?  Review the Club Committee Structure document from RI.
  • How can you find out who is the club committee chair?
  • We are all part of the Membership Team!  Review the Learning Plan for Membership to get additional ideas and think about how your committee can help with club membership.

Week 4: Working with District Team

The District Governor knows they can’t do everything themselves, so they are counting on you to do your part and to communicate with other District Committee Chairs and leaders to keep them informed.  If you don’t know who they are or what they do, that makes it harder.
Do some cross-training this week.  Review some learning modules that are not directly related to your committee.

WEEK 5: Goal Setting

At our District Team Training event, you will be asked to help create the District goals for the upcoming year.  Many those goals roll-up from information entered at the club level in Club Central.  And other goals should be tied into the Strategic and Action Plan as set by Rotary.  Take this week to review the Action plan and reflect how it ties into the goals.

Learning Center Modules

Action

  • Find out what your clubs have entered for their goals for the current year and if they have entered any for next year.
  • Review the materials for Rotary’s Action Plan in My Rotary > About Rotary > Action Plan
  • Especially watch the video from Dr. Francis Tusubira of Uganda on Rotary’s Action Plan site.
  • How does the Action Plan tie into the goals that need to be set for the District and for Clubs?
  • Review the Recognition and Awards that are available for the clubs at both the District and Rotary International level. How can recognitions help with goals?
  • How are you doing on your ‘job description’ for your committee.  How do goals figure out in the job description?  Complete your District Leadership Plan document for your committee and submit to the DGE.

WEEK 6: Committee Bonus week
