Greetings and welcome everyone to 2018.  I hope you had a restful and somewhat peaceful holiday season.  Jenny and I enjoyed getting together with family and friends and now we are ready to take on the challenges of the new year.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp (RYLA) April 6-8
The 7th annual District 5650 Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp (RYLA) will be held April 6-8, 2018 at Camp Kitaki near Louisville.  The camp teaches high school sophomores and juniors about the importance of leadership and involvement in their community and world.

Human Trafficking Initiative
As many of you may recall, at the International Convention in Atlanta last June, there was a strong push to address human trafficking (see definition below).  Ashton Kutcher spoke eloquently about this issue and encouraged districts around the world to address the topic.

Club Goals for 2017-18
I have been encouraging clubs to set goals in writing for certain key areas and am really pleased with the results. Membership, Foundation Giving, Polio Plus Giving and Volunteer Hours are the areas of focus for the District for goal setting this year.

Members can view their individual The Rotary Foundation giving detail and history reports at any time by logging on to the Rotary International Website - Rotary.org / My Rotary. Click here for instructions.
 
This particular report is not available to Club or District executives. Executives can see the total giving for a member including their Paul Harris Status, but cannot view the details of the individual transactions.

2018 Rotary District 5650 Conference
The 2017-18 District Conference will be tentatively held on July 27-28, 2018.  We are thinking of starting around 10:00 a.m. om Friday and ending Saturday evening.  It will be held at the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln.
