Club officers, watch for your 2026-27 District Dues invoice this month. You may notice that the amount is less than you’ve seen on past annual invoices, and that’s because District 5650 is changing the way dues are billed this year.
Service is at the heart of who we are as Rotarians, but the real magic happens when more of our members get involved. One of Rotary International’s priority goals this year focuses not on how many service projects we complete, but on how many of our members participate in them. October is going to be a special month in District 5650, and I hope one of the highlights will be seeing many of you at Fusion 5650, our District Conference, October 23-24 in Ashland!
Our District Conference is more than an event on the calendar. It’s a chance to reconnect with Rotary friends, meet new ones, share ideas, celebrate what our clubs are accomplishing, and return home energized about what comes next. After spending the past several months visiting clubs throughout our District, I can tell you there is a lot worth celebrating!
Become a “ShelterBox Hero” by Helping Displaced Families in Nepal
On the morning of August 26, a glacial collapse on the Nepal-Tibet border of the Himalayas triggered a chain reaction of mass flooding, decimating villages for more than 40 miles along the Trishuli River. Nearly 1500 persons have died. More than 6000 are still missing.
It has been estimated that more than 80,000 people have been displaced, almost half of them children. These displaced families are in desperate need of shelter.

I’ve been working toward the goal of serving as District 5650 Governor for the past few years, and I could not have done it without the incredible Rotarians who have come before me—especially Immediate Past District Governor Robert Rapp. Robert’s leadership over the past year has been a true lesson in humility and peacebuilding. Caracas, Venezuela is located within Rotary Zone 25A. Through our current alignment we are aligned them as we are within 25B & Zone 29. A message was sent to Rotary District 5650 Presidents about Rotary's response to the Venezuela Earthquakes.
Consider honoring a member of your club for their service by nominating them for the Rotary District 5650 Cadwallader Award - the highest award for service presented by our District. Nominations are due August 15, 2026.
We will be holding a Ride to End Polio on August 29th (changed from original date May 23rd). There will be 10, 25, and 44 mile rides in Omaha with the 10 and 25 mile courses being pretty flat and gentle.
It is with great pleasure that we announce that, on June 27, the District Nominating Committee interviewed and selected Emily Martin of the Rotary Club of Red Oak as the District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) for Rotary District 5650. Effective July 1, Emily will become the District Governor Nominee (DGN) and will serve as District Governor during the 2028–2029 Rotary year.
This month, Rotarians from across Nebraska and Southwest Iowa will gather at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum for Fusion 5650, our 2026 District Conference.

Abigail “Abby” Cawley of Lincoln had a dream: she had already collaborated on published work on stabilizing post-conflict states, but she wanted to deepen her understanding of the stabilization of societies after conflict in order to be of better service internationally.

RYLA 2026 will be held Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Camp Calvin Crest in Fremont, Nebraska. This transformational leadership experience brings together outstanding young people from across our region for a weekend of growth, teamwork, and inspiration.
